Reading Order of Genta’s Books & Stories

Other than ‘Sapphic Storyteller’, I do not have a defined style. Depending upon my mood, I consider myself either eclectic, or scatterbrained. But I have managed to produce nineteen (and counting) published books and stories.

With two sapphic historical series, several stand alone romantasy novels, a growing number of short stories, a few YA books, my memoir of traveling to San Francisco to become one of the first legal same-sex marriages in the US, and a truly chilling horror story, as a reader it can be daunting to know where to start. Or maybe you’ve already read one of my books, like what you read, and want to find others. This is the list for you!

The Series:

Although each book can be enjoyed as a stand alone novel, for the best reading experience I suggest reading all of the books within a series in the following order:

(romantic fantasies or fantastical romance)

Books for, and about, Kids

Riding the Rainbow [novel]  Amazon |

Lily loves her two out-loud-and-proud moms almost as much as she loves horses, but bullies makes life tough during bus rides, in class, and on the playground. Clara sits across the schoolroom, still as a statue, never volunteering or raising her hand, keeping her family’s big secret; she has two in-the-closet dads.

If they become best friends, what’s the worst that can happen?

Blackmail? Kidnapping? Maybe even…murder?

A Man’s Man [novel] Currently Unpublished |

After his mom’s sudden death, RJ is furious, feeling lost and abandoned. He’s the new kid in a small town middle school, struggling to make friends, and plans to play sports to win a scholarship to college. As if that wasn’t pressure enough, his estranged father is gay, and lives with a boyfriend!

It’s too much. RJ won’t be the ‘queer’ guy’s kid, so he implements a plan to turn his father straight again. First step, get rid of the boyfriend and the handsome school coach already seems to know him.

But his plan has unintended consequences, and people he cares about are upset, injured, and Coach loses his job. As RJ struggles to make things right, he grows up enough to realizes that love is just that, love. But is it enough to conquer hate?

Author note: This book has been misunderstood by readers from the start. Thoroughly miserable, RJ is striking out in his pain and is very obnoxious at the beginning of the story. Some LGBTQ+ readers have been offended by his existence. I’ve been accused of gay-baiting, promoting hate crimes, horrible things, and by members of my own community. I reluctantly unpublished it until I decide whether to rewrite it, or let the changing times speak to the seemingly timeless accuracy of the text.

Horror

Don’t Say Gay in Tranquility Bay [novel]  Amazon |

High school juniors, Nick and best friend Penny, are attacked by bullies on campus who start social networking rumors they’re both gay. Things seem bleak when a video of Nick being stripped, followed by his boxer shorts flying from the school flagpole, hits the internet, goes viral, and threatens to become a full-blown scandal.

But the situation completely deteriorates when one bully turns into a psychotic killer.

This is a book that has struggled to find its audience. It’s a horror story drawing upon tragic, true life events that occurred in a school district near me. I was furious when I wrote it, desperate for the children to stop dying, and I pulled no punches. Although fictionalized, many of the acts of bullying described are all too real. I left no one involved unexamined, and I was ruthless.

It is not a read for the faint of heart. Please check the Trigger Warnings available on my website.

Don’t Say Gay in Tranquility Bay is NOT a typical Genta Sebastian book or story. Sorry, I’m not sorry. But don’t start with this one because all the others are vastly different.
